A young company that pays a special attention to raw materials and the steps of the process. Their goal is the production of a genuine wine, respectful of the tradition.
This is Podere il Saliceto, an adventure born from Gian Paolo and his brother-in-law Marcello. Two guys in love with the world of wine and its secrets.
In 2004, they decided to buy four hectares of land in the classic Lambrusco area, in Sorbara, 6 km from Modena. On the banks of the river Secchia and Curiel Lakes, where sandy soils ensure uniqueness and freshness to the wine.
A challenge for these guys: flat lands are complex, rainfall here is much higher than normal.
Gian Paolo and Marcello planted all the vines manually with patience and dedication. Four years later, Podere il Saliceto gives its first amazing wines.
Gian Paolo and Marcello philosophy is to produce quality wines reducing yields and enhancing minor autochthonous vines such as Malbo Gentile and Trebbiano Modenese. Podere il Saliceto yelds, in fact, are between 60 and 80 quintals per hectare, compared to an average of about 240 quintals. This allows them to preserve the quality of the grapes in order to have an unexceptionable fruit. Two young winemakers who recourse exclusively to manual harvesting using a method that allows to lengthen the life of the plant: soft pruning, invented by two internationally renowned Friulian agronomists, Sirch and Simonit.
The match between the richness of this land and the philosophy of these young winemakers makes their wine so special.
