About the project

The wine from The Winefathers, our wine. But it will be yours too, because we'll tell you step by step how a new wine comes to life and ask for your support and your ideas.

Everything has to be done. We have a blank page and a book to write. We have two steel tanks in which the Tocai Friulano lives and two wooden barrels where the Pinot is resting. At the moment that’s it, this is everything we have, but it’s enough for us because we have a dream and a journey in front of us to make it happen.

We will tell you the care that Giacomo will dedicate to our wine. We already love it. We could not resist, last night in the cellar we tasted it ... it seems already good! We will share with you the work in the cellar, the hardships, the joys and the inevitable disappointments. Thanks to your support we will be able to purchase the first bottles, labels, corks, cartons, we will be able to do the analysis needed to make an excellent wine and we will produce the first promotional material.

We want to choose with you the bottles. Few and numbered, to start with, and they will be for the new relatives that will support us. And what about the name? Could you give us some ideas? And the logo, colors and graphics of the label, the cartons, we will show you as we go and we will collect your input because this is really our wine. Ours, that is from The Winefathers and from a family that widens every day.

The Winemaker

La Cricca is a journey in evolution, which starts from the roots and the Friulian wine history to research and propose new interpretations and unexpected renderings.

The grapes - carefully selected and harvested by hand - come from the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali, which includes the hills of the province of Udine, and boasts a combination of soil, climate and grape varieties particularly favorable. In the zone coexist native vines such as Malvasia, Picolit, Pignolo, Refosco, Ribolla Gialla, Schioppettino, Tazzelenghe, Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo and varieties from different parts of Europe such as Merlot, Sauvignon, Pinot, Cabernet that are now part of the local tradition .

La Cricca starts its journey with an idea of ​​mingling, of delicate and possible coexistence between native and other varieties.

The Tocai Friulano, everyday-wine in all taverns and houses of the province of Udine, can barely contain its vivacity thanks to an addition of Sauvignon. It remains an everyday-wine, a family wine, but becomes ready also for new and more stylish interpretations. And next to this blend here comes the Pinot: it originates from elsewhere, but it’s such a part of Friulian tradition as well.

And now...?

As you know, on May 19th we launched our wines, which are giving us great satisfaction in terms of ratings and reviews. Soon we'll tell you more. Today, however, we want to tell you about sustainability. What does it mean for us? And what will we do to continue pursuing this approach?

Making wine in a sustainable way for us is respecting the land, the community, the culture. It has therefore meant to use organic grapes and to follow the processes and parameters of organic vinification. But this was not enough. Our wines have around half the level of sulphites prescribed by the law for organic white wines.

On the other hand, we do not only care about environmental sustainability, but we wanted to focus on the social one, supporting various projects of Friulian small artists. We organized the series of events called (con)FUSIONE, that has just ended, to promote their work.

And now? How will we continue?

With a new project: some photographers from the Circolo Fotografico Friulano will portray some Friulian artists as they create in their studies, starting with those who participated to (con)FUSIONE. This will produce a series of portraits that will populate the La Cricca website, and then will become an exhibition, publication or any other form.

Sustainability for us is this: delicately picking up from our territory, making sure that our wines talk its language, and giving back with passion.

Here they are ... our bottles!!!

Finally, here are our first bottles. Like in all the stories we finalized the last details the last second of the last day ... but we got them! Presentation on May 19, 2017: capsules, labels, boxes, everything arrived between the 17th and the 18th. Oh, wow!

But, in fact, we got them. And on May 19, 2017, our beloved creatures were tasted for the first time. We look forward to tasting them with you as well, but in the meantime here is a brief presentation.

The first wine is a powerful yet plastic and agile Friulano that is suitable for vegetable appetizers including fried ones, cheese snacks, soups, fish-based risotto, grilled white meats and cheeses even seasoned ones. The first nose is intense: golden apple, white peach, almond, which makes the variety distinctly recognizable. Same correspondence in the mouth, mineral and fruity, good balance and persistence, characterizing bitter.

The second is a strong straw yellow Pinot Bianco, with intense and fruity nose, with spicy scents. Elegant but structured taste, balanced, salty and persistent. Suggested pairings? Carpaccio of tuna fish with rucola and parmesan cheese, risotto with crustaceans, bread gnocchi with speck, fish, white meats, cheese even seasoned ones

Preview... the new labels!

We're almost there, almost there!


On May 19th we will officially present our wines, the Friulano and the Pinot Bianco.

What are we doing?

The wine is bottled ... and the typography is printing the labels.

We could not wait, and you deserve it for your support. Here's a preview of La Cricca's labels. They are printed in house, cut by hand and some information is not definitive. But we could not wait!

Our social media manager

Some time ago you met Elisa and Luca who develop the label and Giacomo that produces "Il Nostro". But who is behind the computer, developing the communication for these new wines?

They call it social media manager, or simply Michelangelo. Facebook has no secrets for him, or at least this is what he tells. In reality they always argue within La Cricca: who would do it in one way, who in another way, then you end up always with a glass in your hand and you do not think any more ... until next time. But, you know, it is like this in a cricca.

Right now Michelangelo is working on some stories, perhaps you have already seen a few, and others have yet to come.

You just have to follow The Winefathers channels and find out what this social man will do!

One thing is certain: with him La Cricca is always on the move!

Our winemaker

The cold was biting in recent weeks. The area of the Colli Orientali reached almost minus ten degrees in the coldest nights. The vines are covered with a thin and soft white blanket.

Our winemaker, Giacomo, is analyzing the latest samples of Our Wine. If outside nature sleeps, the activity in the cellar continues as always. Nevertheless, even in the cellar the rhythms seem to be slowed down. This is perhaps the quietest period for Giacomo. It’s the waiting period, an almost spiritual time when you have to know how to respect the balance that continually form in what will be our wine.

After some outdoor operations, Giacomo returns to the cellar. He warms his hands, they are numb. This cold does not make life easy, but he knows that cold is a big help for the wine. In fact, thanks to the low temperatures its stabilization moves forward very fast and he can taste it every day, analyzing its evolution.

Till now Giacomo has been very pleased with Our Wine. He thinks that both the Friulano and the Pinot will be very pleasant surprises. Are you curious to taste them?

Our designer

In the cellar the wine proceeds its maturation thanks to Giacomo’s attentions, but what about the other activities? So many things are still to be done: the label, the documents, the social media strategy and some things of the website, the commercial aspects, but since we are a cricca we divided the tasks and each of us focuses on a piece of work. There is much to do, but in a cricca you cannot stand back!

Today we have a look to Luca C. (in the Cricca there are two guys named Luca...). We know, Luca is the one who sits down and designs, plans, in short, all those boring things. But this time he seems to be dealing with something more interesting ...

He is talking with our graphic designer, they are sketching the labels. Luca would like to express the vitality of this project. Elisa brought the first ideas. Poor her, we know how picky can Luca be when he wants ... We asked Luca to show us something, and to show it to our relatives, but he says it is too early. Meticulous and a perfectionist, that’s it.

So we can not tell you anything yet, but we promise that if you continue to follow our history, you'll find out soon.

Our wine is growing!

Our wine is aging, the lees are cradled by the fragrant wine of November. Giacomo, our oenologist, carefully and gently shakes them, ensuring that balance and naturalness in wine that only expert and loving hands can give.

The rich substances of the yeasts will give stability and new harmonic and natural flavors to our wine, preserving its typicality. The name of this practice carried out in barrel takes the name of "batonnage", from the name of the stick used to fulfill this task.

Our wine is growing and we are looking forward to the end. In the meantime, enjoy the show!
