A surprising pairing, an invitation for an amazing summer
Food is sharing, everyone knows it.
It becomes a celebration when you can enjoy it in a charming place.
It turns into a small event if you pair it with an exceptional wine.
Without going back too far with the memory, the opportunity became reality in a pleasant trattoria in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The menu was so interesting. Only wines were missing ...
But the maitre did not disappoint us.
By passion and inclination I am a lover of aromatic white wines that are able to sustain the load of the years, the ones that soften with the age.
I chose this dish: linguine with sea urchins. And I asked to pair it with a Riesling.
The small, beautiful valley of Wachau, in Lower Austria, UNESCO heritage and formed by the flow of the majestic Danube, is a region whose wine vocation is rooted in history. And whose products are high quality ones. Gruner Veltiner and Riesling above all, cultivated overlooking the river in a naturalistic setting that takes your breath away. In the wine cart there was a valid representative of the category.
I was therefore served an Austrian Riesling from 2011, the Fritsch Kapuzinerberg Wachau Kamptal 2011.
It was rich in charm, dressed in a beautiful brushed golden dress. In the glass it was intense, and declared all its structure. At the nose honey, flowers, graphite ...
Of course the sea urchins have an incredible aromatic persistence, but the Riesling played its game, compact in the mouth, balanced, bodied, with a fatness well compensated by the acidity still present and promise of further longevity.
Finally the intense aromatic persistence was there, corresponding to the nose and very pleasant. A great wine exalts a great dish!
So, try this pairing this summer! Enjoy it!
